RE-DESIGNING A BOOK

GRAPHIC

This project involved redesigning "The Alchemist" book by Paulo Coelho, encompassing both the cover and the interior layout. "The Alchemist" explores themes of destiny, self-discovery, spiritual awakening, and the importance of pursuing one's dreams despite obstacles. To me, this book epitomizes the simplicity of life when one removes predetermined values and norms, choosing instead to follow and trust the universe and its path.

For the interior layout of the book, I opted for a minimalist approach, using the same typography (Nanum Myeongjo) for the chapter titles, body text, and page numbers. Consistency in typography creates a cohesive reading experience while maintaining simplicity and elegance.

Regarding the cover design, I drew inspiration from the aura colors, aiming to capture the essence of the book's themes. I chose to use Big Caslon for the title and author's name both on the cover and inside the book, providing a harmonious visual continuity.

In contrast to existing copies, which may be more ornate or traditional, I opted for a modern and simple design, reflecting the timeless and universal messages conveyed within "The Alchemist."
